Good news! One of my works, Capricorn, has won the Best Character award for the New Masters of Fantasy III (2005) art collection: www.mastersoffantasy.com/vol3_… . Two of my other pieces, The Valkyrie and Perfect Horizon, are also included in this CD collection.

I'm also fortunate enough to be selected as the Artist of the Month in the 3rd issue of ImagineFX (marketing.futurenet.com/imagin…). The prizes are the art books, Painter and Exotique, for this, but I haven't yet receive them. (Will send in an email to pester the ImagineFX staff for them :D.) Thanks alot to Martin (spyroteknik.deviantart.com/) for the heads-up on this!

Yay, some of my stuff got accepted into the New Masters of Fantasy 2005 cd art collection! www.mastersoffantasy.com/ . The link shows the 2004 edition, which I didn't enter. The 2005 one should be out soon, I hope. Will update here if there's any news :). This CD collection is put together by the nice folks of Epilogue (a fantasy art site). I submitted a few pieces(Capricorn, Valkyrie & Perfect Horizons Front Cover), and am not sure which of those got chosen.

I've been very busy with work on a 3D animated "Ten Commandments" feature. It's straight to DVD, and is a collaboration between us, another singaporean company, and a new zealand animation studio. My job involves mostly modeling and texturing right now. Schedule's really hectic, so it means overtime work for me every week. Not sure if I want to stay till the end, as I've gotten a decent job offer from a friend from another company...

Ack, I just fell down this morning, and I think I fractured my left forearm and/or elbow. There's increasing pain as I bend or straighten my arm too much. Grrr. Turning my wrist about also hurts. To make matters worse, there's this tingling, slightly numb feeling in my fingers that suggest a nerve may likely be damaged. Boo.

I thank whatever gods or goddesses out there who made me a right-hander. At least, I can continue drawing stuff. ...Playing video games might prove to be difficult, however. =P

Anyhows, lots of thanks to all who left comments on my art. I regret not being able to answer to everyone's crits or encouraging words. Nevertheless, they are much appreciated. :)

Suikoden 4 Rant

2 min read
Argh, Suiko 4 has to be the worst suiko in the series. There're so many things inadequate about it I don't know where to begin.

4- (instead of 6) character parties, too many meaningless filler characters (yeah, much more than the previous games), boring story, ugly main character who loves to wear shorts, LINEAR (as in one straight path) levels, overpowered runes (coughFalconcough), unrelated end-boss (where the hell did THAT come from??), poor opening sequence (I so missed Suiko 3's gorgeous animated opening, done by Studio Gonzo)...the list goes on and on.

Oh well...I think part of the fault lies in the producer, Junko Kawano. Much as I respect her taking on so many roles in the production of Suiko 4 (she's producer, chara designer, lead scriptwriter and even the friggin' motion-capture director :faint: ), I think more specialized people in some of her roles will improve the end result. I'm also a bit sad that she took over the role of chara designer from Fumi Ishikawa, who designed the characters for Suiko 2 & 3. Ishikawa is a stronger illustrator, and I certainly feel that her chara designs have much more charisma.

Bah..., now I'll try out Xenosaga 2. Possibly another disappointment, due to the absence of the previous composer, Yasunori Mitsuda, and also, the severe changes done to the original script co-writtened by Soraya Saga. Xeno fans may like to take a look at her homepage, Fridge soraya.jp/fridge/faq.html , where she talked a bit about leaving the production team of the Xenosaga series. Surprisingly, she's an accomplished artist too! I feel so sorry that she's not included in the new Xeno team. Damn Monolith Soft's management :(.

Fans of her writings may want to send her their encouragements (Saga is the co-writer of Xenosaga 1 and the great Xenogears). She seems to be feeling somewhat down, judging from what I read on her page... :crying:

The Tsunami

1 min read
...Over 100,000 killed, and immeasurable amount of property destroyed.

And experts predict dire after-effects. The amount of rotting corpses may cause severe outbreaks of disease that can affect people directly and also indirectly through livestock and fishes. Some fishermen near the affected regions are starting to be hurt by this, as many people, fearing contamination, aren't buying fishes for food anymore, thus threatening the livelihood of these already poor villagers.

The orphaned children and homeless women caused by this catastrophe are facing yet another danger. There have been reports of exploitation of these children and women; some of them sold to vice trades and even pedophiles. It seems unbelievable that there would be those who will add more misery to the survivors in order to feed their own perverted greed. But there are...

This event really brings out both the best and the worst in humans. If you can spare any money, please donate some of it to help those victims.
